This past Wednesday was my friend Tina’s Birthday (Happy Birthday Tina) so she decided to head to Original Joe’s for her birthday dinner as they have 35 cent chicken wings on Wednesday nights! Not bad eh?
Original Joe’s opened a while ago in Nanaimo and it seems like their popularity has not died down yet! We arrived at the restaurant just after 5pm, grabbed a big table and the restaurant filled pretty quickly. Their menu is filled with all kinds of yummy looking goodies, from burgers to salads, to pizza and pasta. It is also a great place for the beer lover, I counted over a dozen different types of beer (including five of their own beers) But to be perfectly honest with you, I have mostly stuck with the chicken wings and red tractor nachos whenever I go there. (Because they are awesome)
Now… onto the chicken wings. Original Joe’s has plenty of options for us wing lovers including: bbq, honey garlic, teriyaki, salt and pepper, greek, sweet chili, salt and vinegar, dill pickle, cajun, caribbean jerk, shanghai, hot, or industrial strength.
My personal favorites are teriyaki (of course) and dill pickle.
By the time we got around to ordering our wings, the restaurant was pretty busy and there was a lot of wings coming out of the kitchen. I was a bit disappointed with my wings, I found them to be very dry (even the saucy ones) and were just lukewarm, but I still ate them all!
Josh and Danielle went for the Salt and Vinegar, Honey Garlic, and the Spicy Jerk wings.
Josh and Danielle are great partners in crime for this chicken wing hunt. (And I am not just saying that because they are family) Josh loved the salt and vinegar flavored wings, but that they were a bit on the dry side. Danielle mentioned that her honey wings were on the dry side as well. She compared them to the turkey from Christmas Vacation.
Josh going in for a bite of wing, yum!
This picture of Matt makes me laugh so much. Finger lickin’ good!
Matt & Tina enjoyed their wings. They had teriyaki, honey garlic, sweet chili and shanghai wings. Tina thought they had a good crunch, and a good sauce to meat ratio. She also mentioned that she appreciated the wetnaps that they provided for us. (As we all got sticky fingers)
We finished off our meal by splitting a Dirt Pie, which consists of two slices of our house made chocolate and mocha ice cream cake, with dark chocolate chunks, caramel fudge and a crumbled cookie crust.
Let’s just say I felt like I needed a wheelbarrow to leave the restaurant.
Despite the fact that our wings were on the well-done side we will be back for sure, and I promise next time I will try next more of their menu because everything looks so darn good. If you have been thinking about trying trying Original Joe’s I highly recommend them, just go before 5pm or after 7:3opm otherwise there is a lineup out the door.
